Well, don't be disappointed in us... but we've abandoned the potty training for now.
For several reasons:
1. She didn't seem to be getting it. Day 4 we had 4 successes in the potty! But had just as many accidents, including a poo in the bathtub incident again. Blah. But Day 5... well, it was all accidents. Back to being just like Days 1 & 2. This was very stressful.
2. We leave on vacation in 4 days. We weren't sure what we were going to do with her on the airplane, on the 3 hour drive we'll have after we arrive to visit our friends to get to their house, as we visit all the places we're planning to visit... With all that moving around and being in a different place, I didn't have the highest hopes that she could handle it. It would've been very stressful.
3. I'm told this is normal during potty training, but she started acting out a lot. I mean, a lot. And being totally defiant, which is not our normally precious little Lucy bug. This, to me, was more stressful and upsetting than the fact that she wasn't getting it! Stress, again.
So, if you add all those up, the common denominator was STRESS. We feel good about the exposure she got to the process. 5 days of going to the potty (with only 4 successes, but lots of celebration and some yummy sixlets afterwards), waking her up in the night to go potty (which she never did), and 2 poopy floaters in the bathtub (followed by lots of "yucky" "gross" "big girls put their poopoo in the potty").
So, that's the story. We really planned on just sticking with it and pressing through. But we feel this is the best decision for us for right now. Hopefully, in a few weeks, she'll be ready to go!
Here's some cute pics from our Potty Training Boot Camp.

Totally understand the traveling thing! We held off on Annabel's potty training because of our trip to India/Dubai. There was no way I was gonna deal with all the accidents, frequent pottying, and washing extra clothes! Sounds like y'all made the right call! And...now you get to go on vacation! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Allison! Those pictures made me smile at my computer! Sounds like all that traveling would've made for more stress with a newly potty trained Lucy. That was stressful for me - getting out of the house after I potty trained Brennan. A friend got one of those travel potties that has the disposable bags that they go in - I'll be getting one of those for the next go round. Hope next time brings more successes and less stress! :)
