Last Tuesday, I was offered a job at Lucy's school. SHOCK. As the English Language Support person for the secondary school. SHOCK. I wasn't looking for a job and I sure wasn't thinking it would be ESL! But when they said that I could work part-time, in a small-group setting, with potential to meet with parents...well...It was too good to pass up!
I have 24 students *so far* and they are all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Some of them cannot read a word or write. Some of them need help with grammar. All of them need help to catch up to the level of their classmates. I'm blessed to have small groups and to work from only 8:30-12:30 every day. I'm blessed to be at the same school as Lucy and to get to see her often.
I won't lie, it's been hard to adjust to a work schedule. I haven't "worked" in 6+ years... and I haven't taught in 7+ years! It's a different world - Arab culture and Arab way of life is completely different than schools in the USA and definitely different than the Christian school I taught at in Tanzania. But I have great kids and I'm excited by the challenges ahead of me!
Please pray for me on this journey! I'm committed until the end of this school year, and we'll see how it goes for next year or not.
