Cooking Victory - Granola

The other day, in my constant quest for granola bars, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make some myself. Yes. I can do this. I searched for a recipe and found one on Allrecipes.com. (I love that website!)

I used chocolate chips, coconut flakes, cranberries, and raisins as my "fillers."

Chewy Granola Bars

18 Servings, Prep Time: , Cook Time: 15 - 20 min
Description
Extra chewy granola bars.
You can make them your own by picking different
ingredients to add in!
Try using any combination of miniature
chocolate chips, sunflower seeds, raisins, chopped dried fruits,
candy-coated chocolate pieces, chopped nuts, etc.
Ingredients
  • 4 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups miniature semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Lightly grease one 9x13 inch pan.
In a large mixing bowl combine the oats, flour,
baking soda, vanilla, butter or margarine, honey and
brown sugar. Stir in the 2 cups assorted chocolate chips,
raisins, nuts etc
Lightly press mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 18 to 22 min
or until golden brown.
Let cool for 10 minutes then cut into bars.
Let bars cool completely in pan before
removing or serving.

Oh My Goodness. I've already bought all the ingredients
to make another batch. Seriously YUM. And now
I never have to worry about being able to find or not find granola
bars in the grocery stores here - because
I can always find all the ingredients! :) We could eat them hard,
as actual bars, but we decided to warm them
up for about 20 seconds and eat them more as baked oatmeal.
Yummy, either way!

  1. Seriously, these were some great bars. Much better than anything we've bought in the store. Not to get all gangsta but my wife has some mad cooking skills.

  2. I've made some similar to this. its been a while and you have inspired me to make some more. Brad said you have a good pizza crust recipe. Can you give it to me?

  3. can't wait to try this. I tried another recipe and it was ok but not great. I'm tired of looking far & wide for granola bars and they are Jon's favorite fast breakfast.

  4. I just realized that you couldn't see the directions! Hopefully, it's all fixed now. And you can get your granola going!
