Top List of Things I Miss from the USA:
1. Tied with my 3 sisters. Seriously, Emily, Meredith, & Lesley are my favorite people outside Brad and Lucy!
2. Mom & Dad & Bill.
3a. BBQ. This might just be PORK altogether. Sausage, in all its forms.
3b. My best pals. Communication with my best pals any time I want!
4. Singing in the SMBC choir.
5. Biscuits! Breakfast at McDs or Cracker Barrel. Basically, sausage, biscuits...
6. Seeing family enjoy Lucy.
7. Chick-fil-A
8. Game time with the SS class.
9. Being able to be outside any time I want in temperature-appropriate clothing.
10. Seeing all the family and all their happenings and life events...
Now, to counter, so I don't get all these emails from my family telling me to come home since I miss these things,
Top List of Things I LOVE Here:
1. Being in the center of God's will. It's a sweet place to be. (This really covers a lot!)
2. The culture Lucy is going to get as she grows.
3. The amount of time I get to spend with Brad & Lucy that I wouldn't get to if we were in the US with "normal" jobs.
4. The amount of time Lucy gets to spend with Brad that she wouldn't get if we were in the US with "normal" jobs.
5. My friends and by extension, family here.
6. The conservative mindset and dress of people here.
7. Indian/Arab/Swahili food!
8. Worshipping in our home, like they did in Acts.
9. The fact that in 2 years, I'm going to KNOW Arabic! WOOHOO!
10. Seeing Camels on the side of the road!
I love my life. I'm so blessed.
But, sheesh, I miss pork and I miss biscuits! Anyone got a biscuit recipe for me? (all the while remembering that we can't get buttermilk here)
We move in 3 weeks and 1 day! Yahoo!!!

ReplyDeleteThose were the best biscuits I could find to make, and I think I tried about a dozen recipes before this one. I just used butter instead of shortening. Btw, you can add 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar to a cup of milk, set it out for about 10 min, and you've got buttermilk! You should add "Learning all kinds of cooking substitutions" to your GOOD list. It makes you feel accomplished. :) (as if thriving in an opposite culture doesn't already do that sometimes already! :)
