Pumpkin Carving

(I'm wondering if all my friends and family in the US are bored with my endless posts of American things...??? Hmmm. Oh well, it's all FIRSTS for Lucy! So enjoy!)

Today we carved (or Brad carved) our pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. I told Lucy this morning on our way to school that we needed to carve "our pumpkin" today and she said, "No, Mommy. It's MY pumpkin." Nice. 3 year old.

*Side note: Today was Pajama Day at school. That's why she's in PJs in the middle of the afternoon. They had popcorn and watched a movie. Pretty fun, huh? It's "P" week at school AND Lucy is the Star Student of the Week. (I have no idea what that means...but it's been a fun week!)*

Here's our carving in pictures:

Lucy refused to reach into the pumpkin to pull out the "guts." She said that they were gross! She hates having dirty hands!

But she was very happy to use the spoon!

Showing off her treat from Bibi.

Here's where you're gonna be impressed:
I just so happened to be reading my friend Mary Kathryn's blog about her Pumpkin Carving Hall of Fame - trust me, she and her hubby are mad-pumpkin-carvers! I was showing Brad and Lucy their pictures and my 2 loves wanted to try to do Iron Man on the pumpkin. I told Lucy to practice first on a piece of paper.

Here's the picture she was looking at from MK's blog:
(AMAZING, huh?)
And here's what Lucy drew while she was looking at this picture:
Also AMAZING! RIGHT? I mean, she's 3 1/2! We were/are super impressed!
So, Brad started carving. Know that we are not mad-pumpkin-carvers, but big dreamers, for sure!
Iron Man turned out to be quite difficult, involving lots of shaving and not cutting all the way through the pumpkin - something we are not professional at. SO....
We ended up with a very cute smiley face! I LOVE it! Brad did a great job!
And when Lucy saw it all lit up tonight, she said, "Look at my jackolantern!" (Where does she learn all these words?!?!)
Happy Pumpkin Carving, friends!

  1. I'm with Lucy - pumpkin guts are yucky, and I don't carve them mainly because of that! haha
