Sleepover Attempt #1

Tonight we went over to our friends' house for dinner and some fellowship. We've known this family now for 2 years - wow, almost exactly - since Micah and Lucy were 3 months old! (Micah is their son) Micah and Lucy are amazing friends, as well as Micah's big (4 year old) sister, Morgan. We love these two kiddos just like they were our own niece and nephew! And we love watching them all play and DANCE together!

Tonight, we decided that after dinner we'd try putting them all down to bed together in Micah & Morgan's room so we adults could have some quality time together. I mean, we haven't watched a movie together...all 4 of us... wait... EVER! And I mean, Lucy, Micah and Morgan all sleep in "big beds" now, so it seemed like an easy thing to do. Try. So we rearranged their room and put a mattress on the floor for Lucy to sleep on. We moved the night light and got all the blankets and even a stuffed dog (Lucy sleeps with a stuffed dog Bibi bought her from Ikea). We read our book. We prayed. All the while, our friends are doing their own nighttime routines with Micah and Morgan.

Things seemed to be going smoothly! Wow. Easy, right?

Well, once we closed the door, our dear little ones let us know otherwise. Lucy started SCREECHING! And so did Micah.

I can't actually recall just how many times ONE of the 4 adults ended up going back into the room to put the 2 two-year olds back to bed after they had come walking back into the living room...but just know, it was a lot of times! We tried for about 30 minutes to make it work - each time, having about 1 minute of perceived success before a little hand would open the bedroom door and come out...

One of those times, I was in the bedroom laying down next to Lucy, trying to soothe her, all the while thinking that Morgan, the 4 year old, is already asleep because she hasn't made a sound or gotten up during all this commotion, and I hear the STAR QUOTE of the night, courtesy of said 4-year old:

"I'm sleeping good, Alison, because I haven't gotten up."

It was a very funny moment. And Yes, Morgan, you did "sleep good" for us.

We ended up getting Lucy and coming home. Oh well. She is only 2 years old.

ONE DAY...

ONE GLORIOUS DAY... She will have a sleepover and WE will get some quality adult time. :) Inshallah...
